Terms of use
Simple rules for a shared library.
These terms explain how you may use ToRead. They are written for adults who download the app, manage a subscription, or help a younger reader use it.
Effective and last updated: September 20, 2026
1. Accepting these terms
By downloading, accessing, purchasing, or using ToRead, you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. If you are under the age required to enter a contract where you live, a parent or guardian must accept these terms and manage purchases for you.
2. What ToRead provides
ToRead is a digital reading library with curated stories, illustrations, narration, word help, downloads, and reading tools. Languages, titles, features, and availability can change as the library grows. ToRead supports reading but is not a substitute for professional educational, medical, or accessibility advice.
3. Local reader profiles
Reader profiles are stored on the device and are intended for household use. Keep the device secure, use a nickname instead of a full legal name, and supervise younger readers. You are responsible for activity and purchases made through your device or store account, except where the law says otherwise.
4. Your licence to use ToRead
ToRead gives you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app and available stories for private, non-commercial reading while you have lawful access. The app, stories, artwork, audio, branding, and software remain owned by ToRead or its licensors.
- Do not copy, publish, sell, rent, sublicense, or publicly perform the content except where law allows it.
- Do not bypass access controls, scrape the catalogue, probe security, reverse engineer the service except where law expressly permits, or interfere with other users.
- Do not use ToRead or its content to train another model or build a competing content service without written permission.
5. Curated content and reports
Stories are reviewed through ToRead’s editorial process before publication. Curation reduces risk but cannot guarantee that every story suits every reader or family. Adults should choose content that fits their reader. If something seems inaccurate, unsafe, or inappropriate, use the report tool or contact support so we can review it.
6. Subscriptions, renewal, and cancellation
Paid plans are offered through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The price, billing period, trial, taxes, and renewal terms shown by the store when you confirm the purchase are part of your agreement. Unless the purchase screen says otherwise, a subscription renews automatically until it is cancelled in the same store account used to buy it.
Deleting ToRead does not cancel a subscription. Cancel before the store’s renewal deadline to avoid the next charge. Access normally continues until the end of the paid period. Restore Purchases can reconnect an eligible purchase on a supported device. Refunds are handled by the store, subject to its rules and your mandatory consumer rights.
7. Offline access and updates
Downloaded stories may work offline for a limited period while the app verifies access. An internet connection may occasionally be required to refresh the catalogue, confirm a subscription, restore a purchase, update the app, or download content. A title may be corrected, replaced, or removed for legal, safety, editorial, or licensing reasons.
8. Third-party services
App stores, payment providers, device platforms, and linked websites have their own terms and privacy practices. ToRead does not control those services. Their terms apply when you use them, and these terms do not reduce any rights you have against those providers.
9. Availability and warranties
We work to keep ToRead safe and reliable, but the service may be interrupted and may contain errors. To the extent permitted by law, it is provided “as is” and “as available,” without a promise that every feature, device, or title will always be available. Nothing in these terms excludes a warranty, guarantee, or remedy that applicable consumer law does not allow us to exclude.
10. Responsibility and limits
To the extent permitted by law, ToRead is not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable loss caused by use of, or inability to use, the service. Nothing limits liability for fraud, intentional or gross fault, injury caused by our fault, or any liability that cannot legally be limited. Your rights under the Québec Consumer Protection Act and other mandatory consumer laws remain unchanged.
11. Suspension or ending access
We may suspend or end access when reasonably necessary to address fraud, harmful or illegal use, security risk, non-payment, a legal requirement, or a serious breach of these terms. When practical, we will give notice and a chance to correct the issue. You may stop using ToRead at any time; stopping does not by itself cancel a store subscription.
12. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms when the service or law changes. We will post the new date and give reasonable notice of a material change. If you continue using ToRead after the change takes effect, the updated terms apply, subject to any consent required by law.
These terms are governed by the laws of Québec and Canada that apply there, without taking away mandatory protections available where you live. If one part is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the agreement about your use of ToRead, except for terms shown by your app store at purchase.
